Install Qlik Sense certificates

Qlik Sense certificates enable secure communication between Qalyptus Server and Qlik Sense. The installation requirements depend on your deployment architecture and security configuration.

Installation Scenarios​

Scenario 1: Same Machine, Same User​

When Qalyptus and Qlik Sense are installed on the same machine with the same service user:

Do Not Install Certificates

Certificate installation is NOT required and will cause Qlik Sense to malfunction. The certificates are already available in the user profile.

If you accidentally install certificates:

Scenario 2: Separate Machine or Different User​

When Qalyptus is on a different machine OR uses a different service user:

Certificate Installation Required

Certificate installation is mandatory for proper communication with Qlik Sense.

Certificate Export Process​

Export from Qlik Management Console (QMC)​

  • Log in with QMC administrative privileges
  • Select Certificates from the QMC main menu
  • Click Add machine name to add a new entry
  • Enter a memorable name in the machine name field
  • Leave password fields empty (required)
  • Check "Include secret key" (required)
  • Click Export certificates
  • Wait for the "Certificates exported" confirmation
  • Note the export location path displayed

The export creates three files:

  • client.pfx: Client authentication certificate
  • server.pfx: Server authentication certificate
  • root.cer: Root certificate authority certificate
Export Failure

If export fails with "Certificates export could not complete":

  • Verify QMC administrative permissions
  • Check machine name format and network connectivity
  • Ensure Qlik Sense services are running

Certificate Installation via Qalyptus Server Configuration​

Installation Process​

  • Log in with the Qalyptus Server service user account
  • Launch Qalyptus Server Configuration from Start menu
  • Go to the Qlik Sense Certificates tab and Browse to client.pfx
  • Click Install Certificates button
  • Confirm replacement if old certificates exist
  • Wait for installation confirmation message

Post-Installation Verification​

Test Qlik Sense Connectivity:

  • Access Qalyptus Server interface
  • Verify Qlik Sense connections work properly
  • Test report generation and data refresh
  • Check for any certificate-related errors
Certificate Renewal

Qlik Sense certificates have expiration dates. Plan regular certificate renewal and update procedures to maintain system connectivity.
